Pupils from four schools were up in Ealing Magistrates' Court on Saturday - but they had not put a foot wrong.


They were among more than 4,000 students taking part in this year's National Mock Trial Competition.Students from Dormers Wells High School, Northolt High School, Sacred Heart Language College, and The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls put forward a team of 13 students from years 8 and 9 who played the parts of magistrates, lawyers, witnesses, court staff and the defendant.

Pirates, Cinderellas and sleeping beauties took to the stage on Friday to mark national book week.

More than 600 pupils of Montpelier Primary School, Montpelier Road, Ealing, dressed up as their favourite book characters before showing off their costumes during a parade at assembly.

The students of St Benedict's Senior school decorated the Cloisters with bright coloured signs and table cloths to make the market place look authentic and cakes, sweets, soft drinks and bracelets were on sale.

Children dipped their hands in dye to help raise money for charity and give thanks for life.

The pupils of Montpelier Primary School, Montpelier Road, Ealing, raised £250 for the 'Eradicate Polio now' campaign, called 'Thanks for Life' which is being organised by Rotary Clubs up and down the country.

The Vice-Chancellor of Thames Valley University's went to Buckingham Palace to receive the prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize for outstanding achievement and excellence in hospitality education.


Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter John accepted the award last Friday on behalf of the Ealing university, one of just 21 colleges and universities across the country to win the award.

Thames Valley University has reported a record number of UCAS application forms for undergraduate programmes.

The University claims applications have increased by 67.1per cent over the last 12 months, which is the biggest increase across England.

As part of the plans to expand primary schools in the borough to accommodate the baby boom, four further schools will have their classrooms increased.

A total of 90 new places will be created with Brentside and St Mark's Primary Schools in Hanwell each increasing by 15 so reception intake stands at 60 from September 2011.

Budding broadcasters are being given an opportunity to become DJs as an Anglo-Polish radio station has teamed up with an Ealing college to help media students.

From this month, ORLA.fm is working with Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College and has already set up a radio studio at the Ealing campus.
