Ealing's youth volunteers awarded
Young people were awarded for their commitment to volunteering at a special ceremony held at Ealing Town Hall last Friday.
The 95 volunteers aged between 16 and 25 were recognised for giving up their time in helping others, whether through administration work, football coaching or befriending elderly or isolated people in West London.
As part of the V-Inspired project, volunteers were presented with a V50 award for those who have volunteered for a minimum of 50 hours within the last 12 months and the V-impact award for those sparing 150 hours of their time.
Siboniso Moyo, the Youth Volunteer Development Manager at Ealing Volunteer Centre, said: "This is a nationwide project to create more opportunities for young people and encourage them to volunteer as well as to celebrate their achievements.
"We are very proud of the volunteers; often there is bad publicity about young people but this is an excellent example of young people doing a lot of good in the community by contributing their time.
"Their efforts should be recognised and we are proud to celebrate these young people's achievements."
The young people were joined by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Shirley Harper-O'Neill, Deputy Mayor of Ealing, John Ross and MP Steve Pound.
The V-inspired project in West London includes the areas of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Brent, Harrow and Hillingdon.
There are more than 200 volunteering opportunities available and for more information, call 0800 652 3183.
