Ealing council tackles sticky situation

Dedicated environmental teams have been armed with new equipment to remove chewing gum from pavements.

The gum-busting team at Ealing Council will use environmentally friendly chemicals to remove the sticky gum and then the pavements are washed down making them look as good as new.

Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: "I'm impressed that this simple method can be so effective and lifts the gum off so easily, leaving a nice clean pavement.

"Dropping gum is a nasty habit and considering the number of bins we have in the borough, there really is no excuse for it."

New paving being laid by the council in the town centres is harder for the gum to stick to.
