Streets for People Scheme in Ealing Pitshanger

Work will begin next week to improve Pitshanger Lane to make it easier and safer for shoppers and motorists to navigate.

Following a consultation in December 2007, 77per cent of respondents were in favour of plans to improve the area and Transport for London invested £600,000 in the Streets for People scheme.

The work, carried out by Ealing Council is expected to be completed by April 2010, but will be suspended from the end of November until the beginning of January to minimise disruption over the Christmas period and to the annual Light Up the Lanes event.

Improvements include new loading bays, stop and shop bays, bus stop relocation, raised junction tables, new benches, bins and cycle stands, repaved footpaths, resurfaced road and new heritage-style street lighting.

Cabinet member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor David Millican, said: "Pitshanger Lane is a very attractive niche shopping area already.

"I'm pleased it is now being further improved to make it an even more inviting place for shoppers and residents."

Some side roads will be closed for a short time to allow the works to be carried out, but
Pitshanger Lane will not be fully closed at any stage.

We'd like to hear from you.
