Local Democracy Week in Ealing

Young people are being encouraged to take an interest in local decision-making with a host of activities including question time, a mock council meeting and political speed dating.

To mark Local Democracy Week from 12-16 October, the council will put on a version of question time for 17 and 18-year-olds with Youth Mayor, Amnah Noor, Council Leader Jason Stacey and Steve Pound MP, on the panel.

On October 14, children from Hobbayne Primary in Hanwell will take part in a mock council meeting, playing the role of chief executive, leader and councillors and voting on decisions.

The speed dating round to decide who is the favourite councillor will take place at Cardinal Wiseman High School on October 16 and Ealing primary school pupils in years four to six will find out who has won the Mayor's competition after submitting poems, paintings and prose explaining how they would run the council for the chance to shadow the current Mayor, Councillor Barbara Yerolemou.

Youngsters can also take part in interactive computer games on Ealing Council's website at www.ealing.gov.uk.

We'd like to hear from you.
