Ealing University Blasts Through to Award Nomination

A university radio station has blasted through to a national award in the category of 'Best Marketing and Branding'.

Thames Valley University's show, Blast Radio, has been nominated for a national Student Radio Award (SRA) after only five months of transmission from the historic Ealing Studios.

Since May, students have produced three short videos screened across the campus, taken part in charity car washes and used social networking sites to promote the station and attract listeners.

Terry Smith, Blast Radio's Head of Marketing, said: "It's so great to be nominated and I'm still in disbelief.

"As head of the marketing team, I know how hard we all worked and it's such a thrill that our effort and achievement has been recognised like this.

"Of course everyone who contributed to Blast this year deserves credit and we had a lot of obstacles to overcome but once we did there was real synergy across the station.

"I think the best part of working on Blast radio was that we all really enjoyed what we were doing, so for me the SRA nomination is the icing on the cake."

Nominations were announced by DJ's from XFM and Capital FM at a special ceremony held at the University of Westminster last week and Blast Radio will compete against five other nominees in the category.

The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday November 5 at the IndigO2 arena.
