Ealing Passengers Choked on Pepper Spray

Posted by Paloma Kubiak on Oct 8, 09 01:01 PM in Crime

Commuters choked and coughed in the ticket hall of a busy station last Friday morning as a police officer tried to restrain a man.

Stunned passengers at Ealing Broadway station watched as a single officer tackled the man who was resisting arrest for a public order offence at around 8:30am.

The officer released pepper spray and peak hour commuters rushed to move away from the scene, covering their noses and coughing after inhaling the fumes.

The man was held on the floor as a back-up British Transport Police Officer arrived at the scene.

A BTP spokesman said: "We can confirm that a man was arrested for a public order offence at Ealing Broadway rail station on the morning of Friday 2 October.

"The man resisted arrest and captor spray was used by the arresting officer.
"Once restrained, the man received a police caution for disorder."
