Fines for Ealing Council Tenants Blocking Exits
Council residents who block communal fire exits will have their items removed, placed in storage and will have to pay fees to get them back.
Ealing Homes which manages around 18,000 properties in the borough, has launched the campaign to improve fire safety in all council blocks.
Letters were distributed to all residents in August giving them fire safety advice and people were told warning stickers would be placed on offending items.
Owners are given 48 hours to remove them before they are put into storage.
The scheme is part of an initiative with Ealing Council and the London Fire Brigade.
A spokesperson for Ealing Homes said: "This is simply about keeping residents safe.
"Most residents are sensible and do not block fire exits, but we will not tolerate the minority who selfishly endanger the lives of others."
