Chris Read, 17, from South Ealing Road came third out of a final ten buskers, which were whittled down from 53 entries. He performed his Crazy at Hammersmith tube in July as part of the Mayor's Rhythm of London Busking Underground scheme and then at the live 'Busk-off' at the Mayor of London's Young People's Question Time at the O2's Indigo2 on Thursday last week. A youth theatre group has launched a bold new project to preserve the history of the Priory Community Centre which is earmarked for demolition.
The centre built in Acton in the 1860s and home to a variety of youth and adult groups, is to be knocked down and rebuilt in one of two locations within the next five years as part of the regeneration plans for the area.
A poetry workshop is being held tomorrow to inspire would-be poets taking part in this year's borough-wide competition.
Last year's poems will also be read out loud at the Chiswick Book Festival at St Michael's and All Angels Church, Bath Road, Chiswick tomorrow (26) from 2.30-4.30pm. The readings tomorrow will be followed by a workshop with useful hints on how to write your first poem. Entry forms for the competition will be available.
