Ealing Pitshanger 'Streets for People'
A survey of more than 2,000 homes has shown people want to preserve the 'special character' of Pitshanger Lane.
The 'Streets for People' town centre improvement plans, which have been in the pipeline for three years, were unveiled at the end of May.
But concerns were raised over the lack of stop and shop bays and suggestions such as developing one way streets and maintaining the wide pavements were brought forward.
The Liberal Democrats Focus Team carried out their own survey of 2,500 homes in the area which show a majority want parking to be made easier for shoppers and the disabled.
More than 60 per cent want stop and shop bays and loading bays if they would not lead to extra traffic on the roads.
Gary Purkiss, of the Focus Team, said: "People are prepared to accept raised road tables to cut speeding but most want enforcement of existing limits or a 20 mph zone, with bollards to keep heavy vehicles off the pavements - simple things to keep walking safe in a pleasant environment."
Three quarters of respondents objected to the introduction of double decker buses on the E2 route, with reduced frequency and concerns were raised that the trees would be damaged as a result.
The full results of the survey can be found by visiting http://www.ealinglibdems.org.uk and will be passed on to the council.
