Stroke Services in Ealing - Consultation Deadline

Posted by Paloma Kubiak on Apr 29, 09 04:40 PM in Health

People are urged to have their say on proposals to develop new stroke and trauma services in London before the deadline.

The Healthcare for London plans could see a major overhaul of services from Ealing Hospital to specialist units in the capital.

If the plans go ahead, Ealing Hospital's stroke unit would close and patients would be taken to Charing Cross or Northwick Park Hospital, both around a 30 minute ambulance journey time.

They would then be transferred to Hillingdon or West Middlesex hospital for their after care.

This move aims to save around 500 lives a year but fears are growing that these units will not be able to cope with the numbers of people and in many cases, it is not always apparent if someone has suffered a stroke.

Ealing Hospital is campaigning to keep the Stroke Unit and is urging everyone to have their say.

Julie Lowe, Chief Executive, said: "I would like everyone to support the effort to keep our stroke unit. Please encourage your families, neighbours and friends to respond to these proposals before the 8 May deadline."

Copies of the questionnaire are available throughout the hospital and can be accessed by going to www.healthcareforlondon.nhs.uk/ and clicking the trauma/stroke consultation.
