A station's refurbishment team were presented with a beacon site award for their safe working practices.

The construction team at the grade two listed Acton Town station, were visited by the Deputy Mayor of London, Richard Barnes, who presented the Project Manager with the award.

Linda Muzikants who leads the 200-strong site team was delighted to be acknowledged for the beacon status.

Refurbishment work to the busy station has to be carried out during the night when the trains stop running for three hours and so far, two lifts have been installed.

Richard Barnes AM, Deputy Mayor of London, said: "This upgrade is making a huge improvement to the station at Acton Town, making it much brighter and better for passengers to move around it.

"I am really pleased to see the two new lifts which will make the station fully accessible.

"I pay tribute to the hard work of everyone involved at the project."

Tube lines introduced the beacon status scheme to encourage all work at project sites and depots to be done safely and in consideration of the environment.

During the refurbishment, 11 new help points, better lighting and increased CCTV cameras will be installed and work is expected to finish by the end of the year.

We'd like to hear from you.

Amazing. Clearly this award has got nothing to do with safety for the public. The road outside the station is choked up with parked construction vehicles most nights blocking the road and setting a bad example for private local drivers and the local minicab company (who respect the approach markings to the crossings and the "No Parking" restrictions around the station. Perhaps the judging panel would care to return of a night and see what really goes on!
