Work Place Accidents - Ealing Sixth Highest

Posted by Shujaul Azam on Sep 15, 08 12:23 PM in Crime

EALING is in the top ten band for the number of people who have had major or fatal accidents at work.

During 2006/07, 107 people suffered from workplace accidents, rating Ealing as the sixth highest borough in London.

Now, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), which revealed the statistics, is urging employers to take action to cut the number of work-based injuries.

Lesley Mercer, head of employment relations and union services at the CSP, said: "Despite legislation putting the responsibility for staff safety in the hands of employers, there is still an unreasonably high rate of workers being seriously, and even fatally, injured while doing their jobs.

"One major or fatal injury at work is one too many.
"Employers need to take immediate steps to ensure that workplace accidents are prevented and that all employees are protected from the potentially devastating effects."

The CSP is encouraging employers to assist staff accessing physiotherapy services to help them remain in or return to work and for physiotherapists to be brought in to carry out risk assessments to prevent injuries.
